Brief History

For over 20 years, the LSWO has focused on bringing quality continuing education to social workers, students, and allied health professionals.  We have had conferences, in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Miami, Portland, and Seattle. We are a network of social work faculty and professional social workers who believe in the recruitment and retention of Latinx students in higher education.

Key Successes for the LSWO:

​

  • Successfully provided Quality continuing education throughout the United States. In February 2024, we will provide continuing education in Oaxaca, Mexico.

  • Provided mentorship in person and online to students and professionals seeking assistance in navigating their careers. and educational goals.

  • Relationship building with Accredited Schools of Social Work in the United States

  • Participated on the Association of Social Work Boards meetings to advocate for changes in Licensure exams and Workforce Development.

  • Participated in SAMHSA's  Embedding Equity and Building the Suicide Prevention Workforce for Underserved Communities

  • Social Work Compact Commission is an administrative body overseeing the Interstate Compact for Social Workers asked the LSWO to Observe and Share during a Commission meeting. 

  • LSWO's Latinx Advisory group meets online with students, professionals, and faculty once a month from October to May during the year. They have been instrumental in providing support for our continuing education programs.

Future Continuing Education Programs

We are currently working on continuing education programs from 2025 to 2027.

Communicate with your nonprofit, public, and faith based agencies your interest in attending our continuing education programs, so they can budget these events.
